Project Manager

Do You Want to be a Project Manager

Posted on December 10, 2013September 25, 2024 by Earl K. Miller

As the title defines the job, a project manager is entitled to manage all the projects under him in a positive manner, so as to get them done on time and hence, attract a profit for the business. The manager needs to control and manage a whole team working on a project and provide healthy resolutions to any queries or quarrels raised among the team members. So, if you wish to be a project manager, you need to be equipped with certain fundamental skills, which are described below.

Well Organised

A project manager is required to be well organized with his work, as he/she needs to use all the free resources efficiently and provide clear decisions on certain aspects, like the steps to be taken along with their order, that can lead the team towards a successful completion. This can be explained with an example of a juggler, who needs to work on with multiple balls in his hands and making them deliver a useful output without ignoring any one of them.

Vision & focus

The vision and focus of the manager should be clear, so as to take into consideration all the aspects and provide a quick resolution on steps mandatory to achieve the target. So, you need to be completely focused on your work and provide a clear vision to all the working members to help them achieve a combined goal easily and efficiently.

Good Communicator

Communication is an important skill of a project manager. Since it is essential for a project manager to remain focused and have a clear vision of what needs to be done next, it is also vital that the vision is clearly delivered to all those engaged with the project. Thus, you must have the skill to communicate your thoughts to people of all levels in a manner that they can easily understand.

Willing to be bad

Being good with all and at all times isn’t the mantra for success, and you must be willing to show your bad side also to achieve positive results. Being a manager, many times, you will need to make decisions against your team members’ thoughts for the successful completion of the project. This needs you to be bad with those, who don’t agree with you, to make them work and, hence, take the project to a useful end.

Pressure Handling

Pressure is an unavoidable part of any big responsibility, of which, management of a project is also a part. So, you must know how to control your nerves and work calmly, even when you are pressured by your senior executives, team members,, or junior workers to change your decision.

Along with these skills, a project manager needs to be a quick learner, and have some common sense and empathy to be a good candidate for this role. If you love to manage things or tasks around you in your daily life and possess the above-mentioned skills, you are likely to be a successful project manager. There are a number of free resources available that can help you prepare for the job and become a perfect candidate.
